We are pleased to offer 1961 Ferrari 400 SA Aerodinamica coupe s/n 2841 SA, the fourth Pininfarina 400 SA Aerodinamica coupe built and one of only thirteen Short Wheel Base (2420 mm) 400 Superamerica Aerodinamica coupes in total. Through the 1950s and into the 1960s Ferrari had a long tradition of building a limited–production, top–of–the–line custom bodied and very powerful luxurious grand Touring car, from the 375 America to the 410 SA and then the 400 SA. From 1959 to 1964 Ferrari built only 25 “Series I” 400 SA SWBs and 22 “Series II” LWB 400 SAs. Priced at double the cost of a new Rolls Royce, the 400 SA was the most–exotic high–performance car of its time.
Reserved for Ferrari’s ultra–wealthy clients, 400 SAs were built for industrialists such as Gianni Agnelli (s/n 1517 SA), or Michel Paul Cavallier (s/n 2257 and 2311), tycoons of the era such as Bill Harrah (s/n 2861) or nobility, such as Count Giovanni Volpi (s/n 2809) and Graf Somsky, the first owner of s/n 2841. Thanks to its Tipo 163 Columbo–based 3976 cc V–12 engine with a factory rated 340 hp, and backed up with a 4–speed, the 400 SA was good for a top speed of 160 mph, the fastest road car of its day!
400 SA s/n 2841 SA has a well documented ownership chain, starting with Count Graf Somsky and later into the collection of television producer and director Greg Garrison for twenty years. Now fully restored to the highest standards, 400 SA s/n 2841 SA has recently finished a multi–year restoration and was shown at the Cavallino Classic XV Concours d′Elegance, January, 2006, scoring a Platinum class award and Speciale Cup for Outstanding coach built Ferrari. 400 SA s/n 2841 SA was then shown at Pebble Beach, August 2006, scoring 99.5 points, finishing second in coachbuilt class and crossing the Podium. There is not a nicer 400 SA in existence, offered at $1,395,000.

1961, 04 Aug., completed. Original color Max Meyer 17672 smoke gray with Connolly VM 3171 red leather. Due to new regulations in Italy covered headlights were no longer allowed so this was the second 400 SA to be fitted with open headlights.
1961, sold new to Count Graf Somsky in Switzerland. S.W.B. Count Somsky was also the first owner of 410 SA s/n 0471 SA, the 1955 Paris show car and the 1956 Brussels show car.’;

Red with red & black int. All original, all numbers match. Rare short wheelbase (94.5″) version with highly tuned engine, rebuilt brakes and rear end.

1999, 12 May, sold by M. Sheehan to current owner as part of a package including 500 Superfast s/n 6039, one of two 500 Superfasts with covered headlights. 400 SA s/n 2841 SA was a very nice, all original car, but missing the Solex carbs and Bosch distributors.
2001, 20 May, at the Palos Verdes Concours. Shown by current owner. Ferrari produced forty–seven 400 SAs from 1959 to 1964, only fourteen were SWB Aerodinamica Coupe style. Original paint color. First in class and received the McGuire’s award for best paint.
2003, August, restoration started. Mechanicals by Bill Pound, body and paint by Symbolic Restoration. A true “right–down–to–a–bare–frame–and–shell” two and a half year, no expenses spared restoration with a goal of 100 points. Now dark blue with tobacco interior. Now fitted with the correct Solex Carbs and Bosch distributors.
