We are pleased to offer an amazing selection of original and well documented parts that came from the Luigi Chinetti NART Team inventory. In 1977 the Chinetti and NART parts inventory was sold to Will Haible in San Leandro, California where the parts remained in a warehouse for over four decades. Today’s offering is the original short-tail rear body from a 512S, probably a spare tail from the Factory teams 1970 Le Mans entry, s/n 1026, driven by the legendary Derek Bell and Ronnie Peterson, but crashed in the fourth hour, or possibly from 512 S s/n 1014, a NART entry, driven by the also legendary Sam Posey and Ronnie Bucknum, which finished 4th at Le Mans on 13-14 June, 1970. Le Mans 1970 was truly an epic event with eleven of Ferraris newest, fastest 512 S entered for the race, against nine Porsches 917s. In a race of heavy rain and heavy attrition, only seven cars of forty-six entrants were classified as finishers. The 512 S short tail on offer is in excellent condition and a fifty-year survivor from the golden-era of unlimited sports prototype racing, making it an excellent and unique original display piece or wall hanging in one’s private collection. With 512Ss’ and 512Ms’ currently selling in the $8,000,000 range, this tail section is a bargain and priced to sell at $29k or best offer
