We are pleased to offer 1974 US model Ferrari 246 GTS Dino s/n 08284, a just-restored and ready-to-go-or-show example with a very high chassis number and a May 1974 build date, completed only one month before Dino production ended. Both the 246 GT coupes and the later 246 GTS spyders were the first evolution of Ferrari’s higher-volume, smaller-engine exotics, meant to appeal to a larger market than the flagship V-12s, and were the first of the long line of V6 and V8 Ferraris that have evolved into today’s massive commercial success for Ferrari. Named after Enzo Ferrari’s son, Alfredino, who died in 1956 of muscular dystrophy at the age of 24, the Dino was the first of the “baby” Ferraris – smaller, lighter and more nimble than the larger 12-cylinder street Ferraris. Its transverse mid-engine was a Ferrari first in a street car, and the four-cam V6 shows its direct racing heritage from the V6 powered 196 SP, 206 SP, 246 SP and the V6 powered F2 Ferraris. The sleek and sensuous Pininfarina designed and Scaglietti built 246 stands as one of the most beautiful and exotic street model Ferraris ever built, epitomizing the Enzo-era Ferraris.

246 GTS s/n 8284 has a known history from new, being built in May of 1974, shipped to Wide World of Cars Inc., the authorized Ferrari dealer for Nanuet NY and then sold by sales person Warren Fragomen on 13 Nov., 1974 to the first owner, John Aldeborgh, the owner of the Standard Gage Co Inc, in Poughkeepsie NY. In 1992 246 GTS s/n 08284 was sold to Dr. Tom Pepper, Columbus, Ohio with 19,470 miles and was kept by Dr. Pepper from 1992 to 2014, so twenty-one years, before being sold by our company, Ferraris Online LLC, on behalf of Dr. Pepper, to the third owner, Juan Carlos Maldonado, a Venezuelan who kept a home in Fort Lauderdale, FL, with 35,556 miles. In Jan., 2017 246 GTS s/n 08284 was again sold by our company, Ferraris Online LLC, on behalf of Mr. Maldonado, to the fourth owner in Houston, Texas with a well documented 35,868 miles. In 2009 Dr. Pepper had the engine rebuilt by Specialty Sports Car Inc., Columbus, Ohio, at a cost of $24,647.28. We have every service invoice under Dr. Pepper’s ownership, from 1993 to 2011, on file, ask us for scanned copies by e-mail. Today 246 GTS s/n 082984 has a mere 36,186 from new for an average of only 786 miles per year over the last 46 years!

Only weeks after taking delivery, in January, 2017, the new owner authorized an over-the-top mechanical and cosmetic restoration of the body, paint, interior, engine, transaxle and interior, plus an overall sorting as the vehicle had seen little use over the past many years. The engine came out for service, the transaxle was rebuilt, and a major restoration of the engine and engine bay, cooling system, heater system, A/C system, and more was completed, at 35,868 miles. In May, 2017, the car was disassembled for paint with the mechanicals work to be done, the interior and all glass was removed, the paint was stripped down to bare metal, all minor dents were repaired and the fit of all panels was checked and corrected as needed. The dash, seats, center console and all other interior components were removed for restoration using new and correct “Mouse-fur” on the dash, and new black leather on the seats and door panels. In April, 2018 the paint work was completed and re-assembly began. In Feb., 2019 the major component assemblies were completed and back on the vehicle. The interior was re-fitted with new carpet, with the inner sill panels and center console finished in Dino vinyl, just a it was from new. Sorting, fitting and testing of windows and switches, door lights, all the elertrical switches, head and tail light wiring, door handle pull cables, seat belts and buzzers, inner fender panels, wiper timing, the heating/cooling system, heater valves, radiator and fan motors function were all checked, restored, and final fit as needed. A very thorough assembly was completed to make sure the vehicle is well sorted and ready for use with the new owner. In April, 2019 all sorting and testing was completed with 36,144 miles showing on the odometer. Please view the history file below for further details. Total of all invoices $180,832.02. We have restoration photos and all invoices on file and the pre-sale inspection is completed. Call or e-mail us for copies by PDF.

We know 246 GTS s/n 08284 well, having sold it in 2013, again in 2017 and again today. The body is mirror straight as one would expect on a just-completed restoration, and the Ferrari Red paint is flawless. The bumpers, door window frames, door upper horizontal trim, the headlight rims, tail light rims, windshield squirters, license plate frame, “Dino GT” rear script and door locks were all re-chromed, the aluminum door sills were polished, the bumper rubbers are new and the grille was re-anodized and fitted. The front and rear window rubber gaskets, all door seals, the under hood seal and the targa top seals are new. The under hood water hoses, the heater air ducts, the radiator-to-hood foam seal, the cockpit heating, the A/C system, the radiator and the front compartment plastic cover are all restored or replaced with correct Dino parts. The wiper system was rebuilt and re-timed. The trunk carpet, rubber trim seal and rear inner plastic cover are all new and the power antenna was reinstalled and rewired. All four wheels were refinished and 246 GTS s/n 08284 now sits on four new, period correct, Michelin 205 / 70 VR 14 tires.

The dash fiberglass shell was refitted and recovered in the correct “Mouse Fur” with all dash-mounted heater cables replaced, all gauges were cleaned, tested and reinstalled. The interior features all new black leather on the rear firewall, both door panels and both “Daytona” seats. The carpets are new and the center console, inner kick panels and sill panels were all recovered in the correct Dino vinyl. The turn signal switch was rebuilt, the door cables were replaced, the seat tracks were cleaned and lubricated and a period correct Becker Mexico radio was installed with new door speakers. Needless to say the interior is “as-new” and restored to Platinum standards.

The engine was removed, the engine bay was cleaned and repainted and the chassis and suspension were cleaned. The engine was resealed as well as the transaxle, half shafts, all three Weber carbs, the clutch, distributor, starter and alternator were all rebuilt. The water expansion tank, airbox air cleaner and half shafts were all powder coated to give a fresh finish but yet last for many years to come. The muffler was refinished and the Dinoplex ignition box was remounted and wiring checked. All new engine bay fuel and water hoses were installed. A new parking brake cable was installed, the engine was fine tuned, test driven and all heating, cooling, lights and other systems were tested, sorted to “as-new” and restored to Platinum standards.

246 GTS s/n 08284 has a known ownership history from new, came from new with leather “Daytona” seats, A/C and P/W and features a well-documented fresh restoration by one of the best shops in the US, over a rust free, damage free body. All systems work “as-new”, and the engine is well tuned, it starts instantly, makes great power, and sounds fantastic! The chassis and suspension are tight and the brakes are effective and responsive. The rebuilt transmission shifts properly and the rebuilt clutch works well. Thanks to the Dino’s low sweeping body lines and the sounds of the well-proven, low-maintenance, high-revving V-6 right behind your seat, every trip to Starbucks sounds, drives and feels like a qualifying lap at Sebring. We welcome any mechanical or body inspection. Priced right and seriously for sale.
