Originally introduced in 1996 as the 550 Maranello, replaced in 2002 by the 575M, and finally in 2005 by the 575 Superamerica, the 550, 575M and 575 SA served well as the flagships of the Ferrari line, taking Ferrari’s styling back to the glory days of the long-nose, short-tail, front-engined Lusso, 275 and 365 GTB/4 Daytona coupes. An indisputably elegant design with both soft and sexy, yet masculine and muscular styling by Pininfarina, we believe the 550, 575M and the ultimate example, the 575 Superamerica, are unquestionably the best-buys in a user-friendly, modern V-12 Ferrari. Thanks to speed-sensitive power steering, they are surprisingly light and easy to drive in traffic at low speeds, or utterly relaxed in top gear at America’s highway speeds. The cockpit is luxurious, roomy and comfortable for drivers of any size with climate control that works well. The 575M (for Modificato) featured an increase in power to 508 hp, offering simply staggering performance with a 0 60 time of 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 203 mph, making the 575 the first front-engined Ferrari to break the magic 200 mph mark!
Introduced in 2005 as the final evolution of the 550-575 Series, the 575 Superamerica featured an electrochromic glass panel roof which could be rotated 180° to lie flat over the trunk’s rear deck. All the driver had to do is release a catch on the windshield header and hit a switch on the center console. The entire operation, up or down, takes about 10 seconds and works perfectly. Ferrari calls the glass roof Revocromico: It revolves, and the amount of tinting in the panel is variable. The top glass has sheets of electrochromic film layered in it that alter their transparency according to the amount of electrical current running through them. In theory a knob on the center console allows for five different levels of light transmission, from an almost clear light blue to a very dark blue, taking just 60 seconds to go from the lightest to darkest setting. In reality the tinting is rarely consistent and so most 575 SA owners simple tint the roof panel for consistency. The roof was manufactured in collaboration with French glass specialist Saint Gobain and incorporates a carbon-fiber structure that is hinged on the single axis with a luggage compartment lid, allowing access to the luggage compartment, even with an open roof. With the roof open, the rear window, which features the third stoplight, also acts as a wind deflector. To justify the use of the Super prefix, Ferrari bumped up the horsepower of the 575M’s 5.7-liter V-12 from 508 hp to 532 hp by increasing the flow rate of the intake tracts and fitting the car with a new exhaust system with less back pressure. The torque figure is unchanged at 434 pound-feet. Thanks to a top speed of 320 km/h (199 mph), Ferrari marketed the 575 Superamerica as the world’s fastest convertible!
575 Superamerica s/n 146151 can be described as immaculate in every regard. The paint is chip and blemish free, the body panel fit is as-new and there are no door dents or scratches. The interior is elegant in Nero with Red stitching. The 19″ Modular wheels are unmarked and the 255/35R 19 front and 305/30R 19 rear Bridgestone POZ SO4 tires are near new. The underside is free of damage and the engine bay sparkles as one would expect of a low-mile, pride-of-ownership, late-model Ferrari. Just under two years ago, on 02 April, 2020, 575 Superamerica s/n 130104 was serviced by Ferrari of Newport Beach’s service center. A new battery was installed, a full cam belt service was performed, the engine oil and brake fluid were replaced, the parking brake was adjusted, a re-do off all the sticky parts was completed, the alarm siren was replaced, the software was updated, a multi-point inspection was performed, the tire pressures were checked, the tire pressure sensors were replaced and a full set of new 255/35R 19 front and 305/30R 19 rear Bridgestone POZ SO4 tires wire mounted, followed by a four wheel alignment. The total invoice was $16,915.55. When service the mileage in was 2,994 miles and the mileage out 3,006 miles.
