Introduced in 1953, the Ferrari 500 Mondial was a lightweight sports racing car powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine developed by Aurelio Lampredi. Named in celebration of Alberto Ascari’s consecutive World Championships, it translated Ferrari’s successful single-seater engineering into a highly competitive sports car. Produced in extremely limited numbers with coachwork by Pinin Farina and Scaglietti, the 500 Mondial became an important part of Ferrari’s early sports racing history.
