Introduced in 1965, the Shelby GT350 transformed the Ford Mustang into a competition-focused high-performance sports car. Developed by Carroll Shelby and Shelby American, the original GT350 featured a modified 289-cubic-inch V8 producing approximately 306 horsepower, upgraded suspension and brakes, and extensive weight-saving modifications. Its success in SCCA competition, distinctive styling, and close connection to Shelby’s racing program established the GT350 as one of the most significant American performance cars of the 1960s.
