We are pleased to offer 1973 Porsche 911S 2.4 Coupe s/n 9113300017. As the 17th of just 1,430 total 911S Coupes produced worldwide for 1973, this early-production 911S coupe marks the final production year of the small bumper – long hood 911s. Thanks to their light and effortless drivability and impressive linear power when they come on the cam, these early 911s take their owner-driver back to an earlier era, with the 2.4 litre 1972s and 1973s as the ultimate evolution of the original long hood – small bumper early 1970s Porsche 911 series.

911S s/n 00017 retains the correct and matching numbers 911S Spec engine # 6330029, matching transaxle # 330047, is still in its factory-original silver metallic with black leather and comes with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity confirming the matching numbers and matching colors. 911S s/n 00017 has a well-documented ownership history from new having been built on August 1st, 1972, and holds the distinction of being one of the first 911s imported to the USA in 1973. It was sold new to Dr. Bill Hardpongue of Kansas City, who retained it through the early 1990s before selling it to Danny Stewart and Scott Tyler, who disassembled 911S s/n 00017 for a light restoration. After accepting they were not Porsche specialists, 911S s/n 00017 was sold to Keith Innis, who planned on completing the restoration. Keith eventually accepted that he was also over his head in the restoration, and so sold 911S s/n 00017 to Phil Bagley of Klub Sport Racing, a well-known and highly regarded Porsche restoration specialist, who sold 911S s/n 00017 and completed the restoration. 911S s/n 00017 arrived as a complete tub, but with every mechanical component removed, and was treated to a bottom-up mechanical restoration including a full suspension, brake and shock rebuild with all hardware replaced, replated or powder-coated, while the lower pan and wheel wells were nicely refinished and undercoated. The transaxle was rebuilt, the engine was pulled and serviced and the interior was treated to a carpet kit, new trim rubber and a thorough detail and service for the new owner, completed in 2013. Because of medical reasons the new owner never took delivery, and so 911S s/n 0017 was sold on to the current owner.

911S s/n 00017 is in excellent cosmetic condition. It has been repainted to high standards in its original color when still with its first owner. The paint is excellent, with only a few small blemishes and a slight color miss-match on the passenger’s door. The body panels are very straight with great fit and gaps. The correct trim is present and very nice, and the chrome appears to be original and is excellent with no significant pitting in evidence and only light scratches. Comes with an excellent set of Vredestein Sprint Classic V rate tires, with a matching spare on the correct Fuchs alloy wheel, mounted on the original 6Jx15 Fuchs front wheels and the wider and more desirable 7Jx15 Fuchs rear wheels, all in excellent condition. The original 6Jx15 rears are provided as spares. The Vredestein Sprint Classic V rate tires are the correct modern replacements for the Pirelli Cinturato tires used when new. All lenses, lights and glass are in good condition. There is no corrosion and no sign of body damage or repairs. The interior and all leather panels and seats appear to be mostly original and in excellent condition. The dashboard is free of cracking, discoloration and warping, and the instruments and controls are all in fine shape. The door panels, rear seats, parcel shelf, visors and headliner are all excellent as well and are of the correct type and are original. The door panels appear to be new. The steering wheel is excellent.

The engine compartment and trunk are correct and nicely detailed. The engine compartment is very clean and retains the correct red fan shroud fitted to the “S” engines. The full intake equipment is in place giving the overall impression of an unmolested and very well cared for car. The trunk conveys a similar impression, with a new carpet set in place and with none of the holes usually found in the carpet near the battery. The battery box and suspension pan are excellent. The entire floor pan, wheel wells and undercarriage have been detailed and all are extremely nice. The chassis was repainted and is just about spotless, and there were no noted signs of accident damage or corrosion, past or present. The car runs and drives well and has the impressive linear power that established the 911S as the pinnacle of the 2.4 litre long hood – small bumper 911 series. The motor starts easily and the gearbox is excellent, even when cold. The steering is communicative and light and the brakes are powerful in the way that has made the 911 famous. The chassis is quiet, with no rattles and minimal wind noise and the wonderful sound of the flat six winding up.

This is an outstanding opportunity to acquire a wonderful survivor 911. This car is a desirable 911S from the last year of the long hoods, and is well-optioned in great colors. Thanks to the larger and torquier 2.4 engine, the 1972 and 1973 911S is a far easier car to drive in day to day traffic than the earlier 2.0 or 2.2 engines. In addition, the standard front chin spoiler significantly reduces front end lift at speed making the 1972-1973 911S the penultimate US-market first-generation 911 enthusiast’s car, surpassed only by the legendary Carrera RS. Add in the known history from new and superb original cosmetic condition combined with the highly detailed chassis and suspension, and this car is the perfect embodiment of a collector caliber early 911. It is complete with an original tool kit and an original owner’s manual. It is an excellent driver, making a strong cosmetic impression and performs well across the board.
