Introduced in 2004, the Pro Mazda was a purpose-built open-wheel racing car developed for the Star Mazda and later Pro Mazda Championship. Its lightweight carbon-fiber monocoque was paired with a 1.3-liter Mazda Renesis rotary engine producing approximately 250 horsepower and a six-speed sequential transmission. Combining advanced aerodynamics, adjustable racing suspension, and lightweight construction, the Pro Mazda became an important development car for drivers progressing through the North American open-wheel racing ladder.
