We are pleased to offer 1964 Jaguar 3.8 XKE Series 1 OTS (Open Two Seater) s/n 881803. Introduced to the public in March of 1961 at the Geneva Motor Show as the Jaguar E-Type, (or as the Jaguar XK-E for the North American market), the XKE was an immediate motoring sensation, re-defining the state of the art automotive specifications for the 1960s. At a time when most cars had drum brakes, live rear axles, and mediocre performance; the E-Type sprang on the scene with lightweight monocoque construction, four wheel disc brakes, rack and pinion steering, independent front and rear suspension, Jaguar’s legendary high-torque twin cam inline-6 and unquestioned stunning good looks. Based on Jaguar’s triple Le Mans winning (1955–1956-1957) D-Type, the XKE employed the racing innovation of a monocoque tub bolted to a tubular framework with the engine bolted directly to the framework. Thanks to the XKE’s 150 mph top speed and a sub-7 second 0–60 time, the XKE offered a combination of beauty, high performance, and competitive pricing unmatched at the time, making the Series 1 XKE an enduring icon of 1960s motoring.

This magnificent example of a 1964 XKE roadster has undergone a full down-to-the-bare-tub-and-back-up restoration by the noted Jaguar restorer David Ferguson of Images Auto Body, Campbell, CA. Finished in the classic Cotswold Blue with complementary very dark blue leather interior with black carpets and a tan top. The dash, carpet, door panels, and interior of the soft top are all in fantastic condition. As part of the bare-tub restoration, XKE s/n 881803 was treated to an extremely high quality repaint. The under hood, engine bay frame rails, firewall, and inner trunk all shine with a beautiful high quality finish. The body is extremely straight and totally rust free. The panel match is excellent throughout, including the difficult to fit bonnet and trunk lid. The exterior is nearly flawless, all the exterior chrome is excellent. The car sits on beautifully refinished chrome wire wheels and is fitted with an outstanding tan mohair soft top over a restored frame.

The engine compartment and trunk are both representative of the very high quality and thoroughness of the restoration. The engine compartment is extremely clean and correct, with beautifully polished aluminum cam covers and polished aluminum SU carburetors. All the painted components, all shrouding, finishes, and even the glass washer fluid bottle are in as-new condition. The trunk is also as-new, with correct material upholstery. The complete underside; front and rear suspension and stainless steel exhaust system are representative of a very high quality restoration and are professionally detailed.

Mechanically, XKE s/n 881803 is very strong, starts instantly and idles like a 2,500 lb tomcat with the first push of the button. The resulting car operates as it should. The brakes and suspension have a tight and responsive feel. The engine sounds fantastic and has excellent linear power with no smoke. Since the restoration by renowned E-Type restorer David Ferguson, XKE s/n 881803 has been maintained and kept in show-ready condition by Blackhorse Automotive Services of Bridgeport, CT and by Milestone Motorcars of Boynton Beach, FL. Both are XKE specialists. All mechanical components are original and match the Jaguar Factory heritage certificate.

In May of 2015 XKE s/n 881803 was inspected and detailed to perfection by Blackhorse Automotive Services with an invoice of $6,250.75 and with ongoing work into June with a second invoice of $4,932.64 and finally in December of 2015 by Milestone Motorcars with an invoice of $5,100. This is an extremely fine example for the purist. It is highly correct and representative of the earliest E-Types produced, which had a number of features unique to the later production examples. The level of restoration is extremely high, making this car a rare opportunity to acquire a car that is essentially in keeping as it left Jaguar in 1964. With the car comes an owner’s manual, and records to support all the work mentioned above. This beautiful driving example has only break in miles on the mechanicals and is complete with books, tools, the Heritage Certificate and all restoration records. This magnificent E type is pride-of-ownership classic and is ready for either the show field, where it most certainly will receive a top score, or to be enjoyed on the open road.
