We are pleased to offer 1953 166 MM Vignale Spyder Series II serial number 0314 M, the 4th of only 6 Series II 166 MM Vignale Spyders built. A gorgeous example of early 1950s Italian coachbuilt styling with curvaceous Mille Miglia Spyder body lines highlighted with Vignale’s trademark portholes, sculptured rear fender vents, nicely blended taillights and beautifully integrated covered headlights. Delivered new on the 19th of May 1953 to well-known Ferrari privateer Edoardo Lualdi-Gabardi, who’s driving career stretched well into the 1960s. In 1953, Lualdi-Gabardi energetically campaigned this car in hillclimbs and races, including the September-run Supercortemaggiore race at Monza finishing a very respectable 9th. During 1953 166 MM s/n 0314 M was updated to three-litres. In 1954, Lualdi sold s/n 0314 M to Primo Pezzoli who used race number ‘542’ in the famous Mille Miglia. In 1959 the car changed ownership three times and moved from Brescia, to Sirmone and finally to Ferrara where the car was raced by Arrigo Cantelli in various hillclimbs for two years.

On the 22nd of August 1961, 1953 166 MM s/n 0314 M was sold to German enthusiast Helmut Frevel who campaigned the car world-wide. In March 1967 he brought the car back to Germany where the car was stored. In 1993, 1953 166 MM s/n 0314 M was sold to Peter Glaesel and was totally restored by DK Engineering, finished in its current very attractive paint scheme of red over silver. Mr Glaesel extensively campaigned the car until selling to Walter Fink of Stuttgart in January 1998. Walter Fink completed the Mille Miglia in 1999 as did his wife Sandra in 2000. Tragically after the 2000 Milla Miglia the car was stolen from her hotel in Brescia.

Nothing was heard of the car until 2007 when the car was discovered in a warehouse in Italy stripped of its unique color scheme and missing many vital components. The car was brought back to the U.K in order to undergo another complete restoration by DK Engineering. The engine and gearbox had been removed from the car and as yet have not been relocated. DK Engineering managed to locate correct type engine and gearbox for the car. This second “ground-up” restoration was completed in May 2010. Today s/n 0314 M is again a beautifully restored 166 MM with a gorgeous Vignale spyder body sporting the best lines of the early 1950s Ferraris, covered headlights, blemish free paint and a pristine interior. Just shown at Cavallino XXI, 17–23 January and the Boca Raton Concours d′ Elegance, 24–26 February. Eligible for the Mille Miglia, Goodwood and every other major vintage racing event. Currently in the US and available for immediate inspection. We can help with Classiche certification. Interesting Ferrari trades considered.
