We are pleased to offer 1965 Beacham Jaguar MK 2 s/n 216447. In its day, the 1960s Jaguar MK 2 was an icon of automotive styling and the fastest and best handling British saloon on the market, making the MK 2 a decades-long favorite among Jaguar owners and classic car enthusiasts. Based in New Zealand, Beacham Jaguar started life as restorers of these cars, evolving to offer major upgrades thanks to components and technology from modern Jaguars. To date, more than fifty Jaguar MK 2s have been restored, updated and delivered to customers by Beacham. The Beacham MK 2 retains its original elegance while being re-engineered, re-developed and completely rebuilt so that it is, to all intents and purposes, a “new” and modern fifty-plus year old car to drive and enjoy.
1965 Beacham Jaguar MK 2 s/n 216447 has been updated thanks to a much more modern all-aluminum, supercharged and intercooled Jaguar 4.0-liter DOHC 32-valve engine, putting out 390 horsepower and 387 pound-feet of torque and ripping up the pavement with a blast from 0 to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds. That power is put to the ground through a smooth shifting five-speed ZF automatic delivering the power to a fully-independent rear suspension and 215/60 R rated 16 inch Pirelli P6000 tires mounted on 7″ x 16″ wire wheels. All the specs read like a modern car thanks to AP Racing brakes with ABS, traction control and anti-dive suspension geometry to name just a few. Modified front and rear sub-frames house the complete and rebuilt “dropped in” XKR V8 engine and beautifully integrated front and rear independent suspensions. Indeed, the incorporation of the front and rear suspensions with the frame, the rust-proofed body floor, new dual exhaust and other componentry is both a remarkable feat of engineering and a work of art to behold. The suspension detailing, the stainless-steel exhaust system and multiple other componentry exemplify the obsessive attention to both detail and integration.
Equally impressive is the interior which has been beautifully reupholstered in all-new tan leather crested with the Beacham logo. A/C with climate control has been added. The seats are from a modern Jaguar and so are electrically adjustable and are fitted with headrests. Power window mechanisms have been added as well as central door locking, power-adjustable rack and pinion steering and electrically operated side mirrors. The elegant and “very British” polished wood dashboard and center console also came from a more modern Jaguar yet some of the early style gauges have been retained. The 170 mph speedo is a dead giveaway that this car is seriously fast. A factory supplied and Jaguar-badged sound system with a 6-CD changer has been added. Safety is well taken care of with modern three-point seat belts and a driver’s side SRS/Airbag System making for a user-friendly road car. A modern electric fan keeps the engine cool while a massive trunk-mounted battery and an alternator power the electrical system.
By transplanting the complete componentry from the 4.0 Litre V8 XKR into the fully restored and re-engineered body shell of the Jaguar MK 2, Beacham has created a unique “Classic” car with all the features expected by today’s motorist yet fitted to the style, charm and charisma of the 1960s and 70s. Visually the car looks the same as it left the Jaguar factory in the U.K, but with extra bonnet louvres from the XKR to allow heat to escape, a large but hidden air scoop under the front bumper to feed air to the oil coolers and larger diameter tires on wider chrome wire wheels. The bodywork is excellent with superb panel gaps and door fit. All panels are very straight and Beacham Jaguar MK 2 s/n 216447 is finished in elegant Flamenco Red Metallic paint over tan leather. The chrome work gleams, the chrome wire wheels are excellent and the Pirelli P6000 tires are near new. The underside of the vehicle is as clean as the top side. Jaguar MK 2 s/n 216447 has supple tan leather upholstery, near perfect carpets and a color coordinated cloth headliner. The walnut on the dash and upper trim on the door panels has been re-veneered and is beautiful, the gauges all work and the car has a true feel of elegance and quality throughout. The experience of driving the car is equally impressive with beautiful light steering, efficient, sharp brakes and a firm suspension. The supercharged 4.0 litre V8 engine is strong, quick and responsive.
Beacham Jaguar MK 2 s/n 216447 was completed by Beacham in 2004, imported into the US in 2005 and has been with the same southern California owner since 2005. The package seamlessly integrates old and new, clothed in a car that’s an amazing 50 plus years old and has covered only 3,354 since restoration and since going to the current owner. Needless to say this car is smog exempt, has been well maintained as part of a very large private collection, needs nothing and will not disappoint.
