We are pleased to offer 1965 Shelby Cobra s/n CSX2538, a well-documented, matching-numbers rack and pinion Cobra 289. CSX2538 was delivered new in red with black and Class “A” accessories, including white sidewall tires; a luggage rack and five chrome wheels. This Cobra was sold on 03 March, 1965 to Andrew Kreider II, its first owner, in Lake Worth, FL. In 1979 289 Cobra s/n CSX2538 was sold to noted collector John Fergus of Columbus, Ohio. John kept CSX2538 in storage until June 2008. CSX2538 passed through several short-term owners, and then in May 2011 was sold to the current owner in Phoenix, Arizona.

Older red re-paint in very good condition on a very good body. Black leather with good patina, black carpets and a correct wood steering wheel. The engine bay is very clean and the original matching-number Ford 289 engine is fitted with twin-4-barrel Carter AFB carburetors. CSX2538 starts instantly and drives very well. The installed top loader gearbox is bulletproof. The original Borg-Warner T-10 gearbox is also included. Nicely detailed underneath. Serviced in June and October of 2011 with a new radiator core, new oil cooler, new oil lines, new radiator hoses, new electric fuel pump, new wiper blades, new headlights, repairs to the header tank, door adjustments, updated air filters and an oil and fluids service for a total of $6,238.75. Invoices on file.

CSX2538 is very original, well sorted and ready for this year’s “Cobra 50th Anniversary” at the Monterey Motorsports Reunion weekend. Comes with the side curtains, the top bows, black canvas top, jack kit and a correct chrome wheel spare. Like all Cobra 289s, CSX2538 is a “user friendly” example of one of the most iconic cars of all time. The small-block 289s have proven to be both excellent weekend or event cars and excellent long term investments.
