We are pleased to offer 1983 Ferrari 512 BBi s/n 46113, one of about half a dozen 512 BBs that were updated and fitted with twin Turbos by Bob Norwood Auto craft in Dallas Texas. As the old racing adage goes, horsepower may sell cars, but torque wins races. Running a modest 4 to 5 pounds of boost, and fitted with twin inter-coolers, 512 BBi s/n 46113 puts out a user-friendly 333.5 hp at the rear wheel, which translates to a real 385 hp at the flywheel, backed with a stump-pulling 390 ft lbs of torque at a very conservative 4,000 rpm! When first introduced as the successor to the front-engined Daytona at the Geneva Motor show in 1972, the Boxer represented a remarkable evolution as Ferrari’s first mid-engined flagship. As Ferrari’s response to Lamborghini’s stunning Miura, the Boxer did not disappoint, with the 4.4 and later 5-liter, horizontally opposed, twelve-cylinder engine longitudinally mounted in line with the transmission, giving the Boxer a low center of gravity, near the center of mass, with acres of torque and great drive-ability. Clothed in suitably rakish bodywork by Pininfarina, with alloy front and rear bonnets, the Boxer was a stunner, and, thanks to P/W and adequate A/C, much more user-friendly than the Miura. Even better, the injected 512 BBi is tractable in traffic and, thanks to the turbos, a rocket on the open road. Today, the Boxer remains a dramatic and exciting car that is both solid yet light and easy to drive.

512 BBi s/n 46113 was completed on 13 April, 1983 and delivered new to Auto La Rotonda S.p.A., the authorized Ferrari dealer for Castiglione Del Lago, in central Italy, before going to Marque Motors in Minnesota for the EPA and DOT conversion. 512 BBi s/n 46113 was next offered in the LA Times by Beverly West Auto, Los Angeles, CA, with 2,800 miles, before going to Robert LaSpada, in Westlake Village, CA. In Jan., 1986 s/n 46113 was offered in the Ferrari Market Letter by Bill Lawson, Phoenix, AZ in Red with Tan and a black boxer bottom with 5,500 miles. 512 BBi s/n 46113 was next offered by the Barrett-Jackson Auction, Scottsdale, AZ in Jan., 1998, advertised as with the last owner 11 years and with 7,320 miles. In 1998 s/n 46113 was offered in the Ferrari Market Letter, issue # 2321 by Cammisa Motor Car Co., Burlingame, CA. Advertised as Red with black Boxer trim and beige leather. Two owners, 7,445 miles. Tools, jack, owners Manual, spare and receipts, recent fluid change and new shocks front and rear. As per Cammisa Motor Cars the car had a major engine out service with all new cats and air pump because of strict Colorado emissions. Fast forward to Nov., 2003 and s/n 46113 was next offered on eBay by Adam Berusch in Charlotte, NC. Red with tan interior and 15,472 miles as a Norwood TWIN TURBO conversion. In early 2004 s/n 46113 was sold to the current owner in Fullerton, CA, 92833. Today s/n 46113 has only 17,653 miles.

512 BBi s/n 46113 presents well, the body is straight and largely dent-free with excellent panel gaps and fit while the forty-one year old paint shows well, but is just beginning to craze in a few spots with age. Both the fiberglass front spoiler and rear fiberglass valance are all-original and have never suffered the indignities of being miss-formed with American 5-mph bumpers. There is the usual minor road rash on the front spoiler and some minor paint crazing on the rear lid from engine heat. The Cromodora wheels are scuff-free and in as-new condition mounted with an excellent set of Michelin X 240/55 VR 415 front and rear tires, but they are date-coded out. All lights, lenses and emblems are in excellent condition and the under-body, chassis and floor pan are all in excellent condition. The tan leather interior is all original and in excellent condition, considering that it is 41 years old. The dashboard is in excellent with no shrinkage as it has spent little time in the sun. The instruments and controls are excellent, as is the headliner and the carpets. The engine compartment is clean and nicely detailed. The front compartment is also very tidy. The spare tire well liner and cover and the correct thin-line spare wheel and tire are still in place. The underside of both the front bonnet and the rear deck lid are in good shape. The undercarriage and belly pan are structurally excellent, undamaged and in excellent condition for a car 41-years old. The engine is dry and the suspension arms and components are all in good shape.

The car runs and drives well. The engine starts immediately and runs smoothly with a unique loping idle and a pleasurable flat-12 sound which is actually relatively quiet at low speeds or around town. The 5-liter flat-12 pulls cleanly, makes great power and has acres of torque, especially in third and fourth gear as the twin turbos have time to spool up! The transmission shifts well, including second gear, and the clutch is light and easy to use. The chassis is tight and compliant and the brakes are both powerful and effective. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a wonderfully documented, twin turbo modified, low-mileage Boxer. 512 BBi s/n 46113 is a cosmetically attractive and user-friendly Ferrari that’s a pleasure to drive thanks to its acres of torque. It is complete with the original Pioneer AM-FM-LW radio and equalizer-booster; the jack bag, the jack and accessories, a spare set of catalysts and the original air boxes. 512 BBi s/n 46113 is user-friendly, market-correctly-priced and a pride of ownership Ferrari.  Because of California’s draconian smog laws, not for sale in California.
