1987 Ferrari 328 GTS #70695
We are pleased to offer 1987 USA model 328 GTS s/n 70695, from new in Rosso Corsa FER 300/6 with tan leather and amazingly well document, back to the original warranty card listing Newport Imports as the selling dealer to Randy Esposito, the first long-term owner and with what we believe is every service record from the date first-sold to today. S/n 70695 has been a three-owner southern California car since new, was put into dry covered storage in 2016 when the third owner moved to Texas and runs perfectly just out of seven years storage. We picked up 328 GTS s/n 70695, charged the over seven-year-old battery, put oil down the cylinders to prevent cylinder scuffing on a cold start, turned the key and she started instantly. Three weeks later the battery still holds a charge and the A/C blows cool! Comes with the original warranty card listing the first owner and selling dealer, the leather carrying pouch for the books, the jack kit and bag, the vinyl tonneau cover for the targa top and the correct thin-line spare wheel and tire. The Rosso Corsa FER 300/6 paint is exceptionally nice after thirty-five years and appears to be all original. All panels have excellent gaps and fit. There is no evidence of accident repairs to the body, underside or chassis. The trim, gaskets, window glass and lenses are also in excellent condition. The tan leather on the seats and door panels is in excellent condition although there is the usual wear to the driver’s bolster, as shown in the photos. The dash covering and headliner are also in excellent condition. The carpets have been protected by throw rugs and are also in excellent condition with minor wear by the driver’s left side footrest, again shown in the attached photos. The car had excellent drivability and it goes straight with no shimmy “hands-off” and brakes in a straight line. The engine bay is clean and oil free and the under panels, belly pan and suspension are in good condition. 328 GTS s/n 70695 is fitted with the concave hub 16-inch alloy 7 x 16 front and 8 x 16 rear wheels, mounted on a set of 205/55/16R front and 225/50/16R rear Dunlop Direzza DZ 101 tires with expired April, 2011 date codes.
The 328 succeeded the highly popular 308 for the 1986 model year and offered an increased displacement V-8 plus a myriad of detail improvements throughout. The mid-engine 328 featured an upgraded 3.2-liter V-8 putting out 270 horsepower, thanks to a sophisticated Marelli MED 806 A electronic ignition system and Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection. Top speed was good for 166 mph. The styling was freshened with new seat patterns, new door handles and tidier and more modern treatment to the front and rear bumpers, both of which were painted in body color. The controls were significantly reworked as well, with new switch gear and revised dashboard and door. 328 GTS s/n 70695 also featured small Cavallino Rampante emblems on the side view door mirrors. Production of the 328 ended in the fall of 1989, marking the end of the transverse mid-engine Ferraris, a line that began with the 246 Dino. As one of the last Ferraris engineered and launched during Enzo Ferrari’s lifetime and as the last of the pre-computer Ferraris, the 328s are sought after for their blend of usability and comparable reliability, as well as the comparative ease of servicing, owing to in-car engine service work and cam-belt replacements.
