We are pleased to offer 1996 Lamborghini Diablo SV-R s/n 12569, one of only thirty-two lightweight Diablo SV based race cars built for the 1996-97-98 Lamborghini Supercar series. The SV-R was introduced at the Geneva Auto Show, in March 1996, with a press release from Automobili Lamborghini SpA. Lamborghini would offer a three year mono-brand race series open to both professional drivers and gentleman enthusiasts, offering them the opportunity to drive a pure racing Lamborghini Diablo SV-R on the world’s most famed tracks! Indeed, The Diablo SV-R was the first Lamborghini officially entered into racing by the factory, the closest to a GT race car Automobili Lamborghini SpA had yet built. The first 28 Diablo SV-Rs were built from February to early June 1996, with a first public race on June 14th 1996 at the famous Le Mans circuit with no less than 28 SV-Rs entered. All 28 SV-Rs finished, making the initial outing a rare “zero faults operation” in the world of racing.

The Diablo SV-R was fitted with a highly tuned 48 valve 5,700 cc V12, fitted with a variable valve timing system, putting out 540 bhp. Power was sent through a five-transaxle, giving 60 mph in 1st, 92 mph in 2nd, 125 mph in 3rd, 160 mph in 4th and a staggering 204 mph in 5th! Stopping was thanks to 355 mm front and 335 rear Brembo brakes, and power was put to the ground through linear rate springs wrapped around Koni 28-12 front and Koni 28-11 rear shocks, backing up 8.5 x 17 inch front and 13 x 18 inch rear one-piece Speedline wheels and massive 240/645 front and 326/640 rear Pirelli tires! The alloy and carbon fiber body was lightened to 1385 kilos, a deep front spoiler and side skirts added downforce by keeping air from underneath the car, while a massive adjustable carbon-fiber wing added yet more downforce and the Diablo’s unique scissor doors further increased the intimidating, very low looks of the Diablo. The stark racing interior featured a full roll cage, a form-fitting Sparco racing seat with full racing harness and a detachable steering wheel. Tire changes were helped by an air jack system. The obligatory fire suppressant system and fuel cell were added. All SV-Rs were delivered by the factory in Yellow, and each driver or team then decaled or painted them as they wished.

The 1996-97-98 Lamborghini Supercar series raced on the world’s most famed tracks, including Le Mans, the Nurburgring, Spa-Francorchamps, Vallelunga, Brands Hatch, Dijon, Silverstone, Magny-Cours, Hockenheim, Imola, Donington and the new Zhuhai track in China. All SV-Rs were maintained at the track and workshop between races by Lamborghini factory mechanics. All SV-Rs were supplied to drivers by Lease Plan, 74 Rue Du Colonel de Rochebrune, 92380, Garches, France. The SV-Rs could be leased for one race or a season, as fit each driver’s budget and schedule. During 1996-97, Diablo SV-R s/n 12569 was driven by Rob Peacock and George Von Opel in 1996, and was then one of several SV-Rs used by Fabio Santaniello to win the 1997 Supercar series.
